Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 · Annex VI Part 3

Where the language editions of Annex VI disagree

Annex VI is published in 23 languages and every edition is equally authentic. In 33 places they did not say the same thing — a name belonging to another entry, a qualifier from the paired entry, a misprint. Each one below is quoted from the Official Journal as first published, with the act and the page. Corrigenda published on 23 September 2026 have since corrected 29 of them; 4 remain as printed.

What this list is — and what it is not

Article 18(2) of CLP points at Annex VI, not at anyone’s reading of it. Where an edition prints something the rest of that same row contradicts, we reproduce the text as published and say what the row’s own EC and CAS numbers identify. We do not correct the Regulation, and a supplier who followed a correction of ours instead of the Regulation would be departing from the text the law refers to.

This list is not claimed to be complete. It is what has been checked against the Official Journal and nothing more. It was assembled by comparing the 23 editions of each entry against one another, so a mistake repeated identically in every edition is invisible to the method — and so is anything in the columns we did not compare.

Every finding was checked twice: first against the consolidated text on EUR-Lex, then against the text of the act that introduced the row, as published in the Official Journal. The consolidated text carries no legal force — the Publications Office assembles it, and the disclaimer says so. Only the electronic Official Journal is authentic (Regulation (EU) No 216/2013, Art. 1(2)). That is why each finding cites an act and a page number, and not a consolidation.

Status

What has been done about it

Corrected. On 22 and 23 September 2026 the Commission’s Directorate-General for Translation published three corrigenda — one for each of the three amending acts, with consecutive document numbers (C/2026/6696, C/2026/6697, C/2026/6698). Together they correct 30 rows of Annex VI in 13 language editions. 29 of the 33 findings on this page are among them, each as described above: the name of the other entry replaced by the entry’s own, the inverted qualifier set right. The findings above keep the text as first published and now carry the corrigendum reference on their own line.

Still as printed (4): 612-008-00-7 (English) · 612-008-00-7 (Maltese) · 607-091-00-1 (Swedish) · 612-008-00-7 (Swedish). The same corrigenda also correct one row that this list did not have: 601-031-00-8 (Polish).

The findings were reported on 10 August 2026 through ECHA’s reporting form for potential errors in Annex VI to CLP. Reporting is not agreement: nothing on this page implies that any authority has accepted, reviewed or replied to them.

The same findings were sent to the EU Publications Office on 10 August 2026. Acknowledged by the EU Publications Office and forwarded to the author institution (ref. OPXHDJSM-237). No outcome is implied.

There was precedent for the correction of exactly this kind of mistake. Corrigendum 32018R0669R(01) (OJ L 233, 10.9.2019, p. 26) corrected the name of entry 015-011-00-6 in the French edition, on page 42 of OJ L 115. The Polish mistake in the same entry, on the same page 42, stood until the corrigendum of 22 September 2026.

ECHA also runs a register of reported mistakes in Annex VI. None of the findings above appear in it — but that register’s outcome column is empty for 118 of its 125 rows, so absence from it means only that: absence. It is not evidence that a mistake is still live, and it is not evidence that anyone disagreed.

For editors and researchers

The story in one paragraph, the data in one file

Annex VI to the CLP Regulation lists the EU’s harmonised classifications for thousands of substances, in 23 equally authentic language editions. Comparing column (2) of every entry across those editions, and against the EC and CAS numbers of the same row, turned up 33 entries in 14 editions where the printed name identifies a different substance from the identifiers next to it — so a supplier reading that edition would classify and label the wrong substance. Each finding cites the amending act and the Official Journal page. 30 of them were reported to ECHA on 10 August 2026; the Publications Office acknowledged the submission and forwarded it to the author institution. On 22–23 September 2026 three corrigenda by the Directorate-General for Translation corrected 29 of the 33 entries; 4 remain as printed. The list is not claimed to be complete.

Data. The findings as a table, with the status of each: annex6-errata.csv (Excel-ready) or annex6-errata.json. Both are generated from the same source as this page on every build, so they cannot drift from it. The compilation is CC BY 4.0; the quoted texts are EU documents.
